Singaporeans want cabinets that last for a long time and our customers often wonder whether to choose between aluminium cabinets and stainless steel cabinets. Comparatively, stainless steel and aluminium cabinets require much less maintenance. High humidity and pests do not affect metal cabinets. Aluminium cabinets are also more resilient to careless spills, knocks or scratches.
By far, most Singaporeans will feel much more satisfied with aluminium cabinets for the following reasons:
- Price
- Customizability
- Colour options
- Delivery timelines
Why Stainless Steel: Extreme Durability
Stainless steel cabinets are the ultimate cabinets for durability and that is why you will see them in commercial kitchens often.
Commercial kitchens encounter a lot of inhospitable circumstances like high heat, high humidity, spills, sharp tools and other aspects that will challenge every form of material used to make residential cabinets.
Since these kitchens can be in use 24 hours a day, it makes sense to go for the most durable material.
Commercial kitchens use high-grade stainless steel surfaces and cabinets which are multiple times the cost of an aluminium cabinet. Compared to aluminium cabinets, they offer greater corrosion resistance and are more durable to scratches, dents and other pressures that come from a commercial kitchen.
Few Reasons To Choose Aluminium Cabinets
Price: Stainless Steel 3-5x More Expensive
Stainless steel is a blend of expensive materials including chromium, nickel, iron and carbon. In the market, Pure 304 stainless steel can be very expensive in Singapore, expect to pay three to five times the cost of aluminium cabinets.
Additionally, stainless steel is generally denser and heavier, which can increase manufacturing and shipping costs. The durability and corrosion resistance of stainless steel also contribute to its higher price, as it often leads to longer-lasting and more robust products.
Stainless steel cabinets are targeted towards a commercial market because commercial kitchens need extremely durable and corrosion resistant cabinets, so their prices are generally higher.
Look: Aluminium have many design and colour choice
Stainless steel cabinets come in one colour: silver-grey. They are rarely painted, veneered or coated because the main reason why people buy stainless steel is because of the hardness and durability of the material! An extra layer would diminish that.

Timeline: Lead Time
Aluminium is the same as Stainless Steel. It is important to choose whether it is made locally. A Star Aluminum furniture has been sold in Singapore for 8 years to achieve local production, Installation, Sales and After-Sales, and can be customised at will. It takes 2-3 weeks from drawing confirmation to installation without any problem. If there are any material errors during the installation, they can be made up for immediately by local production.
The current customization cycle for most foreign countries is 2-3 months, and it may be longer. If there are incorrect materials during the installation, it will be sent from abroad. It will be a very long, long waiting time.
Customisable: Aluminium Is Much More Customisable
Due to the high hardness of Stainless Steel, most of the ones sold on the market are Modular sizes from a craftsmanship perspective, making it difficult to customise freely. As we all know, for example, there are many water pipes in the kitchen, and Modular sizes cannot fit perfectly. Stainless Steel weighs three times more than Aluminum and is not recommended for use on kitchen top hung cabinets,

hat's why 95% of the Windows, Toilet Doors and Hanging Ceiling are made of Aluminium
. Singaporeans generally do not choose stainless steel cabinets for their homes because of limited design options.
On the other hand, aluminium cabinets are also made for the residential market and therefore you can find many more options for designs. As a result, these products will easily accommodate custom size requirements that might be needed for specific projects or spaces, such as fitting around your home’s unique kitchen plumbing setups.
Aluminium cabinet manufacturers recognise that Singaporean homeowners want customisable cabinetry, and therefore are ready to build cabinets based on your needs. On the other hand, stainless steel cabinets are not always customisable.
